Oil Prices Rise In Special NYMEX Trading

Gustav's approach caused crude oil prices to increase in a special early trading session at the  about New York Mercantile Exchange New York Mercantile Exchange on Sunday. By late in the evening, crude oil had risen 72 cents, to $116.18 a barrel, and gasoline had increased 5.4 cents, to about $2.91 a gallon. Crude oil futures in New York fell 13 cents to $115.46 a barrel in New York yesterday on speculation supplies will be adequate to meet demand after the storm passes. Natural gas futures fell 10.7 cents to $7.943 per million British thermal units on the exchange. Bloomberg

Offshore oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico are preparing for Gustav.

Crude for October delivery rose $1.16, or 1 percent, to $116.27 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas for September delivery gained 45.3 cents, or 5.8 percent, to $8.278 per million British thermal units in New York.
