Gustav's approach caused crude oil prices to increase in a special early trading session at the about New York Mercantile Exchange New York Mercantile Exchange on Sunday. By late in the evening, crude oil had risen 72 cents, to $116.18 a barrel, and gasoline had increased 5.4 cents, to about $2.91 a gallon.
